Open-accessch shows New Roots For ChocolateA new study in the online open-access journal PLoS ONE, October revolutionizes the long-held beliefs about cacao published – the tree that is grown on the cocoa. For hundreds of years scientists, historians, chocolate experts and academics have all believed that one of three types one of three types of cacao – Criollo, Forastero and Trinitario. The study, Geographic and Genetic Population Differentiation of the Amazonian Chocolate Tree reveals that there are ten different genetic groups of cacao, rather than the three types that have been referred to over the decades pharmacy journal .
