The Washington-Rochambeau Trail

wayside by the Washington-Rochambeau TrailThe Washington-Rochambeau trail follows the route that General Washington and General Rochambeau took during the Revolutionary War on their way from Newport, Rhode Island to Yorktown, Virginia, where they defeated British General Cornwallis.  This historic trail traverses the eastern part of Prince William Forest Park.

Currently, legislation is going through Congress to recognize the trail as a National Historic Trail.

Within Prince William Forest Park, the Friends have adopted the Washington-Rochambeau trail as a continuing project.  Between National Trails Day in June and National Public Lands Day in September, the group has cleared over two-thirds of the wooded trail. They plan to continue their efforts to restore this historic landmark.
