Letter from the President
 

Friends of Prince William Forest Park is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization that was formed in 1989.   Our mission is to advocate for the preservation and enhancement of the natural and cultural resources of Prince William Forest Park, a unit of the National Park Service, in Triangle, Virginia.

  • Monitor community actions affecting the park and ecosystem.
  • Serve as a forum for citizens on government decisions that affect the park.
  • Raise awareness of park issues and activities within the community.
  • Build friendships and partnerships through activities, recreation and volunteering.
  • Raise funds through corporate and individual donations to benefit special park events, community engagement and special projects.

2010 Chopawamsic Cycle Challenge

Pine Grove Picnic Area at Prince William Forest Park

Join the Friends and the Prince William Forest Park Rangers on an 8.5 mile bicycle challenge through the history of the Prince William Forest Park. This year the ride will include the 2009-built quarter-mile, IMBA designed, shared use mountain bike trail off of Pine Grove Parking Lot. The event is open to riders of all ages and skill levels. Helmets and fat tire bikes are required. Check back for the event flier, route and the registration information.

Special event just for the kids! This year Trips for Kids will be hosting a bike rodeo in conjunction with the Chopawamsic Cycle Challenge. Bring the kids out to challenge a special course set up in Pine Grove Ballfield just for them. Participants must have an adult present. Participants are welcome to also ride part or all of the Cycle Challenge route.

Directions to Pine Grove Picnic Area from I-95 Exit 150B VA619 follow signs to Prince William Forest Park. The park entrance is on your right. A $5 entrance fee per vehicle is required.

National Public Lands Day

9:00am at Prince William Forest Park

Volunteers from throughout the region will join park staff and the National Public Lands crew to perform volunteer projects within the park. For more information about volunteering please visit the Prince William Forest Park website at www.nps.gov/prwi
